HELLO FEBRUARY – What’s in season?

Can you believe it, we are already in the second month of 2022! As the months change throughout the year, so does the fresh produce we find filling our supermarket shelves and farmer’s markets. During summer, our shelves fill up with berries and tropical fruit. But in winter, we see our shelves full of delicious mandarines and oranges. These fruits are high in vitamin C and support a healthy immune system that’s much needed in our cold winter season. The reason why we see different fruits and vegetables in our supermarkets at different times of the year is because all fruits and vegetables have seasonal preferences for how they grow. Each fruit and vegetable needs their own temperatures, soil conditions and sunlight to grow. Seasonal eating refers to eating fruits and vegetables that are at the peak of their freshness and flavour during a specific time of year. It is recommended to try to eat fruits and vegetables when they are grown seasonally, rather than all year round. This is because local seasonal produce is usually more nutritious, fresher and more cost-effective, and of course, eating seasonal is also supporting our local farmers. Us here at My Foodie Box meal-kit delivery service Perth love supporting local farmers by creating our recipes based on what’s currently in season. We source, we prepare and we deliver so that you can spend your time doing what you love instead! Let’s have a look at the seasonal recipes we have prepared for you this week!
